2024 Back to School Information

Yorkville CUSD 115 Parents and Guardians,

The start of the new school year is fast approaching, and District 115 wants to make sure you are updated with the latest information for a successful transition from summer time to the first day of school.

There are so many things to celebrate as the district embarks on the 2024-2025 school year. Ever since the seniors tossed their hats in the air at the 2024 graduation ceremony, Y115 employees have been working hard to prepare for the 2024-2025 school year.

The District 115 mission, cultivating learners who apply skills and experiences to enrich society, continues to be the foundation for decision-making and future initiatives.

First Day of School - Thursday, August 15, 2024

*Yorkville Early Childhood Program will start on Monday, August 19, 2024
(An Early Childhood Program Meet & Greet for parents and guardians is scheduled for August 15 and 16. Please watch for more information to be provided by the building principal.)

*Kindergarten Staggered Start
The first two days of the school year include staggered entry days for kindergarten students. In a smaller group setting, students can become familiar with the kindergarten staff, their classroom, the school building, and school procedures. Below is an outline of the first 3 days of school for kindergarten students:

Thursday, August 15, 2024:
Half of the kindergarten students attend.
Friday, August 16, 2024: The remaining half of the kindergarten students attend.
Monday, August 19, 2024: All kindergarten students attend.

*Note: On July 26th, parents will receive notification from the school principal indicating which day their child will attend the staggered start.

New Superintendent
The Board of Education is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Matt Zediker as the new Superintendent of Yorkville Community School District 115.

With an extensive background in education, Zediker brings a wealth of experience, a deep knowledge of talent development, district accountability, and an unwavering commitment to the success of our students, families, and community. 

Dr. Zediker started at Rockford Public School District 205 in 2005. He has served as an elementary teacher, middle school teacher, athletic coach, Assistant Principal, Principal, Executive Director of Elementary, and Chief Human Resources Officer. Before starting at RPS 205, Mr. Zediker taught for five years at the elementary and middle school levels in Iowa City, Iowa and Freeport, Illinois.

Dr. Zediker shared his excitement about joining Yorkville CUSD 115: "I am honored and thrilled to lead a school district with such high academic standards. My previous roles have equipped me with the skills and insights needed to contribute to the continued success of this exceptional community instantly. I am confident that, together with the dedicated staff and supportive community, we can achieve great things for the students of Yorkville."

Dr. Zediker earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University, an Education Specialist degree from Northern Illinois University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership degree from Northern Illinois University. 

The Yorkville Board of Education is excited to welcome Matt Zediker to District 115 and looks forward to building upon the district's achievements and fostering new milestones under his leadership.

Meal Magic Family Portal provides a convenient, one-stop place to check your child's meal purchases, make deposits, and apply for benefits. Jump Start 2024
Jump Start 2024 is a one-day event open to all students (K-8), including incoming kindergarten students new to their school. It’s an opportunity for your child(ren) to visit their school, engage in class-level activities, become familiar with classrooms and hallways, and get acquainted with some school staff.

Physicals & Immunizations
Physicals and Immunizations are required for all Kindergarten, 6th and 9th grade students, as well as all students entering District 115 for the first time regardless of grade. Physicals and immunizations are due on or before October 1st, no exceptions. For a complete list of examination deadlines and other health related services, please visit the following link:
Health Services

Seniors
As a reminder, all seniors must show proof of having had the meningitis vaccine for school attendance this year. Seniors must have at least 1 dose of the meningitis vaccine after their 16th birthday. Additionally, as you were notified previously, proof of having the vaccine is required in order for students to complete the registration process. If your student has already had this vaccine and you have not yet turned in proof, please contact YHS building nurse Meghan O’Connor at moconnor@y115.org or Jennifer Dryden at jdryden@y115.org. If your student has not had this vaccine yet, please do so ASAP— don’t delay, do it today!
