eburns@y115.orgEricka Burns is in her first year at Yorkville Community Unit District 115 serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Instruction for the secondary schools (grades 7-12). As the assistant superintendent, Ericka will work closely with the middle school and high school professionals to oversee curriculum and assessments, as well as the implementation of instructional strategies and district initiatives in order to best serve all students, their academic growth, and their individual interests.
Prior to this role, Ericka was in Denver Public Schools, in Denver, Colorado where she served as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and director of policy for the district. Before her time in Colorado, Ericka started her teaching career in the Chicago suburbs.
Ericka earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Denver with a focus on school quality and culturally inclusive district leadership. She also earned a Master’s in Education and a Master of Arts in Writing from DePaul University, and her undergraduate degree is from the University of Iowa.
Ericka is excited to be back home in Illinois and thrilled to be a part of the Yorkville community.
