The mission of the YMS STEP (Supporting Teens' Esteem with Performance) Team is to introduce and encourage the performance of stepping, a style of rhythmic dance. The team is co-ed and students are encouraged to be creators of the dances. STEP Team members will perform at select Girls Basketball games, with additional opportunities to perform planned throughout the school year. Other obligations and team events can be found on the team information sheet.
The team is open to those who can make a commitment to practices and performances. The team practices on Tuesdays from 2:45-4:45 p.m. between September and March.
Tryouts for the STEP Competition Squad are held in early October. Members of the competition squad practice on Thursdays from 2:45-5 p.m., and some Wednesdays. The competition squad's season continues through May.
All STEP participants must adhere to the rules of IESA and Yorkville CUSD 115, as well as team expectations. Grades will be checked for eligibility. Students are expected to come dressed appropriately for practice with athletic clothing and tennis shoes as well as bottles of water and a healthy snack, if necessary.
A uniform is required to be worn for all performances. The cost for the shirt and pants is part of the team fee. Team members are also required to wear all black sneakers or boots. Other team clothing and spirit wear items are optional.
