The Yorkville High School Music Department strives to provide students the opportunity to grow as young musicians as well as develop an awareness and appreciation of the arts. We have offerings that cater to the most novice musician as well as those who plan to pursue music as a career. We believe that all students should have an arts education and the ability to create, feel, and inspire.
The Yorkville High School Music Department serves more than 500 students daily through three orchestras, six choirs, four concert bands, three jazz bands, chamber strings, volunteer marching band, pep bands, three general music courses, AP music theory, Music Production and numerous chamber ensembles. Students in performing ensembles may elect to take the course as a weighted grade by completing the weighted grades component program. Students in YHS Music regularly attend contests & festivals and work with world-renowned performers, clinicians, conductors, and composers.
Yorkville CUSD 115’s music education program receives national recognition
The NAMM Foundation’s award program distinguishes Yorkville CUSD 115 as a district that is leading the way with learning opportunities that include music and the arts as significant elements of a well-rounded education for all children.
Now in its 20th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, a district must meet certain thresholds regarding funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by the music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
