Emergency All-District E-learning Day
-
In the event a decision is made to close school buildings due to inclement weather, District 115 may institute an emergency all-district e-learning day. The all-district e-learning plan allows instruction to continue, even if buildings are not able to open. If the district implements an emergency all-district e-learning day, families will be notified according to the weather emergency communication plan.
During an emergency all-district e-learning day:
- District buildings are closed to students/visitors.
- All students attend school remotely (students learn “synchronously” through teacher-led virtual instruction).
- Student attendance is taken by the classroom teacher during the Zoom conference call.
Preparation Tips:
- Students should bring home their Chromebooks/devices and chargers daily.
- Parents/Guardians should ensure their contact information remains updated with their child’s school.

Calculators: Texas Instruments is pleased to offer free, 6-month licenses of TI software to give students and teachers access to the full functionality of their calculators from any PC or Mac computer. This includes the TI-84 family of graphing calculators. They have also made their iPad app available at no cost (though April 2020) and they will soon release a Chromebook app for schools and districts to use during this difficult time. Printing: District 115 understands the need for students to have access to printed materials to aid in their learning. In response to this, students can use this LINK to submit school related PDF documents to be printed. All materials will be available for curbside pick-up the following weekday between 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Yorkville High School, 797 Game Farm Road, Door 28 (library access door on the north side of the school).
Tutorials and Tips
Teachers will be utilizing a variety of tools to help support your child’s learning at home.
Here are some of the tools with tutorials:- Zoom: Video and audio conferencing allowing teachers and students to stay
connected.- Video tutorial for students
- Two ways students should join a Zoom meeting:
- Google Classroom: A digital web-based platform used in grades 3-6 where students can collaborate with their peers and teachers, view resources and assignments, and turn in work
- Canvas: A platform used in grades 7 -12 that allows students to view announcements, access course content, view posted assignments, and turn in completed work.
- Edpuzzle: A tool where students can safely watch videos assigned by their teacher.
- Nearpod: Engages students with interactive activities and connects them through collaborative discussions
- FlipGrid: Allows educators to ask a question, then the students respond in a video. Students are then able to respond to one another, creating a “web” of discussion.
