Dr. Shawn Schumacher has served on the Yorkville CUSD #115 Board of Education for eight
years and has served as a YHS Varsity Football Assistant Coach for 22 years.
Dr. Schumacher is a Senior Professor of English and Humanities at DeVry University, where he
has been teaching full-time since 1990. He earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from
Colorado State University in 2005, an M.A. in English Literature from Governors State University
in 1994, and a B.A. in English with Teacher Certification from Eastern Illinois University in 1990.
Dr. Schumacher serves as Chair of the Faculty Advisory Council to the Illinois Board of Higher
Education, advocating for the 51,000+ higher education faculty in Illinois. He has been a
member of the FAC for seventeen years, serving as Chair for the past five years, Vice Chair for
five years, and Chair of the Private and Independent Universities and Colleges Caucus for five
years.
Dr. Schumacher has recently been appointed by Governor Pritzker to serve on the Illinois
College Affordability and Equity Task Force and has served as an Academic Program Reviewer
for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the American Association for Teaching and Curriculum.
Dr. Schumacher has held a teaching fellowship at Hubei National University in China, has taught
as an adjunct instructor at the American College of Education, Aurora University, Elmhurst
University, University of St. Francis, Robert Morris University, and Waubonsee Community
College, and currently serves as an adjunct instructor at Southern New Hampshire University.
Dr. Schumacher is a YHS alumnus and lives in Yorkville with his wife and their four children.
