Performance vs. Behaviors
Academic Performance vs. Academic Behaviors
How are academic behaviors and performance different?
While academic behavior is aligned with effort, participation, and attitude, academic performance is based on a student's knowledge and skills. The District 115 Learning and Grading Policy is focused on academic performance.
"A grade is supposed to provide an accurate, undiluted indicator of a student's mastery of learning standards. That's it. It is not meant to be part of a reward, motivation, or behavioral contract system" (VanDeWeghe, 2007).
The Comprehensive Learning and Grading plan is designed to create opportunities for students to grow into adaptive and analytical thinkers by encouraging deep understanding of the curriculum.
