Dr. Baughman has been serving the Yorkville Community Unit School District, a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 district in northern Illinois, as an educational leader since 2016. From 2016 to 2022, Dr. Baughman served as the Associate Superintendent of Learning and Instruction, where he was responsible for leading the Teaching and Learning Department, designing professional development, facilitating the implementation of pre-K - 12 curriculum, evaluating academic programming, writing state and federal grants, and improving student achievement.
Dr. Baughman currently serves as the Associate Superintendent for Human Resources and Business Services and is responsible for supervising and evaluating teachers and administrators, negotiating contracts, and overseeing the district finance and human resources departments.
He began his educational career in Oswego Community Unit School District 308 as a fourth grade teacher, and later taught fifth grade in the same affluent Illinois school district. In 2008, he entered educational administration as an Assistant Principal at Fearn Elementary School, a Kindergarten through fifth grade school of approximately 700 students in West Aurora School District 129.
From 2009-2014 he served West Aurora School 129 as Principal of Greenman Elementary School in Aurora, Illinois. During his tenure, through a committed focus on the considerable minority and low income student achievement gaps, state achievement results improved and he was promoted to Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning, a position that oversaw eleven diverse schools of approximately 6,000 learners. During this time he was able to design and implement full day kindergarten, initiate STEM programs, and secure more than six million dollars in after-school and early-learning grant programs.
Dr. Baughman earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2004, a master’s degree from Concordia University in 2008, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Aurora University in 2016.
Dr. Baughman currently resides in Yorkville with his wife Kara and daughters Kailey, Paige, and Raegan. As a former collegiate athlete, Dr. Baughman enjoys all types of sports and outdoor activities, a passion he shares with his wife and hopes to pass along to his children.
